Networking is essential for the success of any business. The exchange of information and services among individuals, groups, and institutions, according to Merriam-Webster. “Specifically,” Webster says, “the cultivation of productive relationships for employment or business.” Those are powerful words. The key words are cultivation, productive, and relationships. In short, networking is supposed to produce or encourage productive relationships.
How do you create these relationships with other business professionals? Check your local Chamber of Commerce. Whether or not you are a member, most Chamber of Commerce centers have monthly networking activities that you can attend. Does your community have a local networking group? Is there an association that is pertinent to your industry? These are all great places to meet other business professionals to cultivate relationships. When in doubt, start your own!

It is a place where people come ready to meet others, so there really is no awkwardness that you can sometimes face when trying to network your business at let’s say….church dinner? Not to say you don’t network everywhere, but if you want a big bang for your time and to meet a lot of like-minded people……networking events are where it is at!
